A new book offers readers a deep dive into the history and legacy of the iconic hydroelectric plant that has generated power for industry, residents and businesses for more than a century. In collaboration with local historian Bernie Arbic and the Chippewa County Historical Society, Cloverland Electric Cooperative is proud to share this comprehensive historical account, tracing the plant’s journey from its 1902 inception to its present-day role in powering nearly a third of Cloverland’s energy supply.
Complete with both historic and recent photos, the book highlights early engineering feats, cross-border cooperation, environmental stewardship and the plant’s lasting economic and cultural impact on the region. An afterword written by Cloverland’s Allie Brawley (director of communications & member relations), Roger Line (director of generation) and Chuck Zane (director of technology) provides a contemporary perspective on the utility’s ownership, ongoing maintenance efforts and how the plant supports affordable, reliable and renewable energy for its 34,000 members across the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
