Pole top rescue is a standard safety requirement for electric utilities nationwide. Each summer, Cloverland linemen complete this training to ensure they are ready to respond in the event of an emergency. Cloverland’s proposed Training and Technology Center will make it possible to conduct safety training during the slower winter months, freeing crews for more field work in summer.
Cloverland’s pole top rescue exercise on August 12, 2025 included a simulated exercise with local first responders. The new training center would expand opportunities for joint hands-on training with local agencies in realistic, simulated environments – creating a safer environment across the EUP.
As part of Cloverland’s commitment to safety, all bucket trucks have been outfitted with self-rescue devices, equipment that allows an operator to descend safely if a truck becomes inoperable in the field. As part of this year’s pole top rescue training, linemen and electronic technicians worked with Buckingham Manufacturing to complete self-rescue training.
