Statement on Pause with Highline’s Implementation of High-Speed Internet Fiber

2/28/24 update: AEG/Highline has been authorized to return to work in our territory exclusively to repair known issues and inspect existing construction that had not been reviewed prior to their stand down order.

2/9/24: Cloverland Electric Cooperative has been working with Highline as they install high speed internet fiberoptic cable across the Eastern Upper Peninsula, specifically within the co-op’s service territory. Unfortunately, Highline’s contractors have damaged Cloverland’s equipment and interrupted electric service to cooperative members on multiple occasions while installing their lines. Over the past year, Cloverland has found more than 450 poles were in violation of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and cooperative requirements. As a result, Highline is currently suspended from working on or making attachments to Cloverland poles. Work may be able to resume once Highline submits an acceptable plan to the cooperative on how they intend to proceed. For the safety of our crews, the public and electric service to members, Cloverland has recommended multiple resources that would be appropriate for Highline to contract with and the need for their installations to be in full compliance with NESC and Cooperative standards.

Highline has issued this statement:

The delay installing your Highline service is 100% our responsibility. Highline is in the process of correcting violations during the fiber construction process to serve your area. Highline's top priority is public safety and following the guidelines for attaching our fiber to the poles. We appreciate your patience.
